I would rent out rooms to my apartment back in the day and those yahoos wanted a favor without consideration. and usually never showed up. Place a three day ad in the WaPo Fri-Sun the people that really wanted the room showed up Friday.(and were usually good roommates)

I would argue all those responses are just playing you, checking someone else's stuff first, if that didn't work out they'd find you.
